How often should you groom your dog to keep them looking great?

Your dog comes home from the groomer smelling good, coat soft to the touch. A few weeks later, they smell like a dog again and the coat has lost its shine. The right grooming rhythm makes that fresh look last, and that rhythm depends mostly on the coat.
Short coat (Labrador, Boxer, Beagle): a groom every 8 to 12 weeks is usually enough. Between visits, a weekly brush at home keeps the hair off your couch.
Long or double coat (German Shepherd, Husky, Golden Retriever): aim for a groom every 6 to 8 weeks. The bath and brush-out at the salon remove the dead hair your brush leaves behind. Their coat stays shiny.
Curly or wavy coat (Poodle, Bichon, Doodle): plan on every 4 to 6 weeks. This type of coat keeps growing, like human hair, and sheds very little. Without regular trims, your dog quickly loses their nice shape.
Lifestyle matters too. A dog that runs through mud or swims often may need more frequent visits. Same thing if their skin is sensitive.
